The aim of the Level 2 Children's Fitness qualification is to train you to a professionally competent level, enabling you to plan and deliver safe and effective kid's fitness sessions.
The objectives of the course are:
- To develop your knowledge of anatomy and physiology and how it relates to exercise and fitness.
- To develop your ability to plan and deliver safe and effective kid's fitness sessions.
- To provide you with the knowledge to develop good customer service and the personal qualities required by the exercise and fitness industry.
- To provide you with an awareness of health and safety in an exercise and fitness environment.
- To provide you with the opportunity to progress to further qualifications in the exercise and fitness industry.
The YMCA Awards Level 2 Children's Fitness qualification is for anyone aspiring to obtain employment or work as a self-employed kid's fitness instructor. Following completion of this course you could teach in schools, leisure centre and community venues. The working hours are likely to be quite varied and this will depend on whether your are employed by a school, leisure centre, gym or sports club. There is also an opportunity to work on a freelance basis running after-school and/or holiday activities. Investing in a children's fitness related franchise is also another career option following completion of this qualification.
Fit4Training offer this qualification as a blended learning course. This means it includes elements of home study, online learning and attendance to two practical days. The course can be started at anytime but attendance on workshops is essential.
Course Content
Mandatory Units
Unit 1 - Anatomy and physiology for exercise - studied at home via online e-learning and assessed via a multiple choice exam
Unit 2 - Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity - studied at home via online e-learning and assessed via completion of a worksheet
Unit 3 - Principles of exercise, fitness and health - studied at home via online e-learning and assessed via a multiple choice exam
Unit 4 - Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment - studied at home via online e-learning and assessed via completion of a worksheet
Practical Units - covered on the practical attendance days
Unit 5 - Planning children's fitness sessions - assessed via a PARQ, informed consent, worksheet, and activity session plans.
Unit 6 - Instructing children's fitness sessions - assessed via a worksheet, practical assessment** and self-evaluation.
** In the final practical assessment you will be assessed teaching a children's fitness class to your peer group. This assessment will last approximately 60 minutes and will be observed directly or via DVD by one of our assessors.
