The YMCA Awards Level 3 Personal Training Certificate is the qualification for anyone wishing to become a personal trainer and provides access onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 3.
Course Information
By the end of this course you will be able to;
- progress from a fitness instructor to work unsupervised as a certified personal trainer,
- offer one to one fitness training,
- carry out baseline fitness assessments including functional movement and posture,
- provide general nutritional advice,
- deliver the latest CV and resistance training methods using a variety of equipment including kettlebells, resistance bands and Olympic barbell,
- deliver outdoor fitness sessions that are unique and entertaining for 1-2-1 and bootcamps, and
- provide progressive advanced programming specific to the needs of the client.
Study Methods
This is a blended learning course, so includes elements of home study, online e-learning and attendance to our 10-day practical workshops. The course can be started at anytime but attendance on workshops is essential. You can also benefit from being allocated a personal tutor including their direct contact details, wrap-around tutor support before, during and after the workshops, and regular support and guidance emails.

Entry Requirements
A suitable Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification in the context of Gym Instructing. The role of a Personal Trainer requires a degree of physical fitness. Click here if you do not have a Level 2 Gym Qualification.

* These theory assessments can be sat during the scheduled workshops days, or on an alternative date at our exam approved centre by completing our 'book an assessment form'.
** In the final practical assessment you will be assessed teaching a variety of PT training methods to a client. This assessment will last approximately 45 minutes and will be observed directly or via DVD by one of our assessors.
